22. SEEing Change in Women's Professional Cycling with Kate Veronneau

Kate Veronneau has built an unconventional career in sports, transitioning from a college basketball player at Brown University to a professional cyclist. After facing challenges in women's cycling, she returned to the workforce, holding roles at GSI Commerce and Vanguard before becoming Marketing Director at Thomson Bike Tours. In 2016, she joined Zwift, where she launched Zwift Academy, a virtual tryout program for women's pro cycling. The initiative gained significant media attention and supported Zwift’s commitment to women’s cycling. As Director of Women’s Strategy, Kate played a key role in launching the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift in 2022, marking a milestone for women's cycling with record global viewership.
About Zwift: Zwift is an online cycling game that enables you to link your turbo trainer or smart bike to your computer, iPad, iPhone or Apple TV, letting you ride or race with other cyclists in a virtual environment. Zwift takes power data from your turbo trainer or smart bike and converts it into speed on the virtual road your avatar is riding on, using your weight to calculate watts per kilo and taking into account the virtual gradient you're tackling. As well as competing against other riders in Zwift races and time trials, it also offers specific training sessions and workouts designed by professional coaches, as well as group rides that you can participate in with other riders.
