10. SEEing Change When Girls are Taught How to Build Wealth

We are pleased to welcome Maura Cunningham, CEO and Founder of Rock The Street, Wall Street (RTSWS) to #SEEChange with Annie Seelaus.
On this episode, Maura talks about what inspired her to start Rock the Street, and how it has rapidly grown from one high school in Nashville to a program that is now in 32 cities across the U.S., U.K., and Canada. Maura shares her story of what it was like growing up in the Bronx with three older brothers and working her way to the top on Wall Street and beyond. Over her successful 25-year career she often found that she was the often the only woman in the room and knew that she needed to harness the power of math to fix the problem.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Rock the Street brings the M in STEM to high school girls. It provides financial and investment literacy programs designed to spark the interest of high school girls into careers of finance and to help bring gender and racial equity to the financial markets.
Rock the Street is growing at a rapid pace. Their model shows quantifiable results and real impact as the girls who go through the program, earn degrees in finance, economics, or related business fields at 5x the American national average for women in college.
